A Look Back: Hightemp’s Strategic Investment in the Automotive Sector Back in 2010, Hightemp made a significant investment of USD 8 million (INR 40 crores) to expand its commercial heat treatment facilities. This expansion was aimed at meeting the growing demand from the automotive industry and solidifying Hightemp’s role as a leader in advanced metallurgical solutions.

As part of this initiative, Hightemp introduced Austempered Ductile Iron (ADI) and Nitrotec treatment technologies at its Pune and Gurgaon facilities. These advanced treatment processes significantly enhanced component performance, making them more durable and efficient for automotive applications.

Additionally, the company’s component manufacturing division underwent a major expansion to cater to the increasing needs of automotive majors, ensuring high-quality production and technological advancements in metallurgy.

In February 2011, Hightemp, in collaboration with its technical licensor, Applied Process Inc. (API) from the USA, actively participated in the 59th Indian Foundry Congress held in Chandigarh. During the event, John Keough from API presented a pioneering paper on “Austempered Ductile Iron (ADI) – A Green Alternative for India.”

ADI, produced through a specialized heat treatment of ductile iron castings, became a game changer in the Indian metallurgical industry. With twice the strength of conventional ductile iron and enhanced toughness, wear resistance, and fatigue strength, ADI successfully replaced traditional forgings, weldments, and fabrications across various industries, including automotive, agriculture, mining, construction, and railways.
