Nitrotec / Nitrocarburising Process
Nitrotec® – the patented Surface Engineering Process for the treatment of steel and cast irons through a technical license from TTI Group Ltd, part of the Group Metal Technology Division of Aalberts Industries N.V – is an important offering from the HIGHTEMP Commercial Heat Treatment services portfolio. This treatment is performed in a gaseous nitrogen bearing atmosphere with temperatures ranging between 550-740oC. This produces iron nitride surface compound layers with thickness ranging between 5-50mm, supported by a nitrogen rich diffusion zone in the substrate.
Options to select various parameters – such as treatment, temperature, time and nitrogen potential of the atmosphere – enable effective control of aspects such as structure, composition & hardness of the compound layer and the sub-surface diffusion zone. An innovative oxidation technique, combined with a specially formulated aqueous quenching and organic sealant are incorporated based on the engineering requirements of a specific application.
The low temperature diffusion treatments provided at HIGHTEMP result in low alloy and mild steels that are stronger (up to four times than the usual), produces wear resistance equal to that of hard chromium plating and provides a black finish with outstanding corrosion resistance.

Nitrotec® Surface Engineered components are extensively used in automobiles, offices, homes, hospitals, industrial switch gears and in the aerospace industry. They also find applications in piston rods, clutch levers, door locks, hand staplers, swivel hubs, passenger seat brackets, security brackets and pivot pins.
